The Oaks student handbook

The studio’s dress code, attendance, payment, and performance policies in one place.

Dress code

For everyone: well-fitting clothing, not excessively loose, covering the chest, stomach, and midriff; hair pulled back. Ballet: girls wear pink tights, ballet shoes, and a leotard of any color, with hair in a bun. Boys wear gym shorts or athletic pants, a T-shirt, and black or tan ballet slippers. Acro and Tiny Tumblers: athletic clothing, no shoes or socks. Creative Combo: athletic clothing, with socks, ballet shoes, jazz shoes, or bare feet. Jazz and Lyrical: athletic clothing; jazz shoes, foot undies, or socks optional. Hip Hop: looser athletic clothing and clean indoor gym shoes with traction. Tap: tap shoes and athletic clothing. Social Dance: athletic or ballroom shoes with traction and clothing allowing full movement.

Attendance and make-ups

A dancer who misses three or more consecutive weeks may be removed from part or all of a performance piece. Make-ups are taken in another scheduled class of a similar genre and level before the semester ends. Make-up records reset each semester.

Payment

Tuition is due on the 1st. A $20 late fee applies after the 15th. An account unpaid at month end is removed from the roster. Payments are made in GoStudioPro.

Dropping a class

Give 30 days’ notice by email, text, or in writing. The dancer may keep attending through the notice period.

Viewing and etiquette

Watching is at the teacher’s discretion; permission is not always granted. Arrive on time and dressed, hair up, bathroom before class, and phones in cubbies. No gum or leaning on barres. Tell the teacher about injuries and early departures.

Photos and video

The enrollment agreement permits studio publicity photos. This website publishes a minor’s face only with a signed release on file, never paired with a full name.

Potty training

A dancer who is not fully potty trained connects with Oakley first. Potty-trained dancers manage the restroom on their own, and parents are told of any accident.

Performances

Two shows a year, two costumes per class, and informal studio showings without costumes. Ask the studio for the costume charge before registering.
