Lyrical: where technique learns to tell a story

Lyrical at The Oaks blends ballet and jazz technique with expressive, music-led movement. Two intermediate classes meet at the Pole Canyon studio, and Adult Lyrical runs Tuesdays at 8:00 p.m. The instructor places dancers; a ballet or jazz background makes the turns and extensions safer. One hour a week is $52 a month.

A few good questions

What families ask.

What is the difference between lyrical and contemporary?

Lyrical stays closer to ballet and jazz lines and interprets the music's lyrics; contemporary draws more on modern technique and floor work.

Does my dancer need ballet first?

Placement is by the instructor; ballet or jazz experience is recommended so the turns and extensions are safe.

Is Adult Lyrical for beginners?

It is open to any adult; some dance background helps, and the instructor adjusts.
