The Oaks Dance Company: Mini, Junior, and Senior Oaks

The Oaks Dance Company is the studio's audition-based performance and competition program in three tiers: Mini Oaks for dancers 10 and under who are beginning and committed, Junior Oaks for intermediate dancers 11–18, and Senior Oaks for advanced dancers 11–18. Company dancers attend the Step Up Dance Convention in October and compete at Aspire, Step Up, Relevé, and Amplify.

Three tiers

Mini Oaks welcomes dancers ten and under who are beginning and committed. Junior Oaks is for intermediate dancers eleven to eighteen. Senior Oaks is for advanced dancers eleven to eighteen. Placement is by audition.

The commitment

Company dancers take two weekly technique classes beyond choreography, one of them ballet or jazz. The contract asks for 90% attendance. Early exit costs two full months of tuition; only a serious injury requiring rehabilitation or a family relocation releases the contract. Talk to Oakley before signing.

The season

The Step Up Dance Convention, Aspire, Step Up, Relevé, and Amplify are part of the program. Competition dates are published before contracts are signed. Company dancers also take part in the all-studio Christmas Show and Spring Concert.

What it costs

Tuition is based on total weekly minutes. The Step Up Convention fee is $250. Ask the studio for the complete current Company fee schedule, costume charges, optional jacket, photoshoot, and competition entry fees before committing.

Why Company

Most Company dancers will not dance for a living, and that is not the point. Company is a year of showing up for the same people every week, learning choreography faster than you thought you could, and standing in a wing with your heart going before the music starts. The discipline carries into school and work; the friendships tend to outlast the season; and the stage is the stage. If your dancer wants more than one class a week and can keep a 90% attendance promise, audition.

A few good questions

What families ask.

What happens after a dancer is accepted?

Accepted dancers enroll in the Company choreography class plus two weekly technique classes, one of them ballet or jazz, and the family signs the one-year contract.

How much travel?

The convention and competition calendar is published before contracts are signed, so every date and city is known up front.

What if we need to leave mid-season?

The contract requires two full months of tuition on early exit, so talk to Oakley before signing.
